Marla's Alarms
Marla's alarms Go off at noon and nine each day Marla cannot wake She snoozes in a swoon She's far away...
It just takes too much energy and time To shake her--and I won't cuz I'm afraid to go into her room It's filled with snakes and dust and gloom It's like a lifeless tomb All dark and deathly drab And Marla's lying there Upon a marble slab...
Drunken she lies, it seems With spiders spinning webs Within her hair and o'er her sunken eyes And o'er her last lost dreams...
Her slumber's much too serious Too dark and dreamless Cold and deep... If I were you I think I'd simply let her sleep
